United Nation of Smoothies: Recipes to Unleash the Nomad in You

Of course, that’s a no-brainer. Smoothies are literally everywhere. You see smoothie booths, bars and other establishments offering this cooler. From malls, upscale dining places, to the streets and food trucks in parks but still as with every food its best if you can make this at home. You are guaranteed that only the best produce goes into your smoothie. There’s no assurance of the freshest organic ingredients will be served in these places because they just store the fruits and veggies in freezers and who knows what has happened to them. Sanitary and hygiene issues abound. So than to risk your health, better to make them yourself right? With these 3 easy recipes you don’t have to go outside anymore and you can served them to you family or unexpected guests in a jiffy, you just need milk and a strong ol’reliable blender. And the best part is just pick what you need within arm’s reach: your garden.

But for starters there is a golden standard tip that we must tell you, though the listed recipes below are very easy to make, (just dump the ingredients and just blend away!) the first thing that you should put in the blender is your liquid agents. Be it milk, yogurt or fruit juice. Why? Because its going to make the job easier for your blender and for the ingredients to mash up real well, smoothly and evenly, you don’t want huge chucks of fruit choking down your throat. And then leave the ice last, and while blending occasionally use a spoon or spatula (with the blender turn off) to guide the fruits down the blender. Sometimes you may have to add a little more milk to really blend it well especially for hard fruits.

So here are our recipes:

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 banana, peeled, sliced, and frozen
  • 1 mango, skinned and chunked
  • 5 large strawberries, hulled

Combine ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
Makes 3½

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 plum, pit removed, flesh roughly chopped
  • 1 peach, pit removed, flesh roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen

Combine ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

Makes 2 cups

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon agave syrup
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 apple, cored
  • Dried cranberries

Combine all ingredients except cranberries in blender and blend until smooth. Top with cranberries.

Smoothies wouldn’t be complete without those garnish and other boosters. Junk the usual tapioca and jelly add-ons with these nutritious alternatives. Got no seeds at the grocery stores?
